GLCC Open House a Success!
GLCC Open House a Success
On April 8, 2006 the GLCC welcomed nearly 200 visitors to a special Open House held to familiarize members of the local GLBT community with the many changes that have taken place over the past year.
Many of the visitors had not previously had the opportunity to visit the GLCC and were impressed with the facility and the services available to the GLBT community. Those who had been to the GLCC before were excited about the recently completed improvements.
Representatives of other GLBT organizations such as TransPitt and Pittsburgh Lesbian and Gay Film Society were also present to familiarize visitors with their respective organizations.
Also in attendance was local author and University of Pittsburgh researcher Michael Shankle who autographed copies of his recently published Handbook of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Public Health: A Practitioner’s Guide to Service. The handbook provides knowledge about sexual and gender orientation, identifies specific health concerns that affect sexual minority communities and offers a positive direction for practitioners to assure a healthy community for all individuals.
To learn more about the services and opportunities available through the GLCC, please visit www.glccpgh.org, stop by between 6:30pm and 9:30pm Monday through Friday and Saturday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm or call (412) 422-0114.
The GLCC is always looking for volunteers interested in supporting the operations of the community center in a variety of areas such as reception, facility operation and organization, programming and service coordination. If you are able to contribute your time to the GLCC, please send an e-mail to volunteer@glccpgh.org or leave a message at (412) 422-0114 in voice mailbox 0-92.
